KakaoTalk Channel chatbot
School health-room chatbot
Answers questions on health check-ups, health-room visits and infection prevention with a single tap.
Project notes
Introduction
A KakaoTalk Channel chatbot made for a school health room. Add the channel, a button menu appears, and each tap brings an answer.
Purpose
Group the questions a health room hears most into seven topics, so the chatbot answers first and hands over to a person only when needed.
Main features
- Adding the channel brings a greeting and a button menu.
- Seven topics, each with four questions: health check-ups, health-room visits, infection prevention, first aid, medicines, documents and certificates, and health counseling.
- Typed phrases such as “건강검진 언제” (when are check-ups?) work as well as buttons.
- Every answer ends with Back to start and Talk to a person; the second opens the channel's one-to-one chat.
- When it doesn't understand, it offers the main menu and a person again.
- Outside chat hours, it says so first.
Technology
- Kakao i Open Builder
- Conversation built from scenarios and blocks in Kakao's business chatbot admin center
- KakaoTalk Channel
- Channel connection and hand-off to one-to-one chat
- JavaScript (browser console)
- Scripts run in the admin center page to create the blocks and their buttons in one go
- Excel
- Draft sheet of questions and answers
How it was made
- Questions and answers were drafted in an Excel sheet first, so the line to change later is easy to find.
- A script created the topic scenarios and question blocks in one go.
- The welcome, talk-to-a-person and fallback blocks were linked and given buttons.
- Every button was tried in the bot test window, the bot was deployed to a test channel, and a real conversation was recorded on a phone.
Limits to work within
- Kakao button labels must fit in 14 characters, so menu names were kept short.
Result
A phone recording (0:16) shows the button menu and the chat-hours notice working on a test channel.
